Underrated Prospects

Here is a list of players who I feel are underrated coming into this year’s draft.  They are prospects who I think can add tremendous value to teams in mid to later rounds.  They have stood out on film to me and flashed potential through their play.  So without further ado, here they are.  Please feel free to email me at [email protected] if any questions or comments.  Thanks for reading!

Lerentee McCray, DE/OLB, Florida
McCray is a prospect who flashes potential.  He’s a terrific pass rusher; using various moves to get to the QB.  He’s also got the ability to drop into coverage and shows awareness when in zone coverage.  As of right now, I have a 4th round grade on him.

Theo Riddick, RB, Notre Dame
He’s an extremely quick and elusive RB who is an excellent receiver out of the backfield.  Riddick stands out on film as a playmaker to me and I think he will be great value somewhere around the 4th or 5th rounds.

Michael Williams, TE, Alabama
Can an Alabama player be on an underrated list?? In this case I think so.  Williams is a very big and strong TE that can be a solid receiving threat on the field.  He’s known for his blocking; and he’s very good at that, but I think he is an underrated receiving threat.  He’s not going to burn you down the field but he’s a big target with great hands.  He’s a 3rd round pick.

Devonte Holloman, LB, South Carolina
This former safety stands out in all the South Carolina game film I’ve watched.  I love his aggressiveness, athletic ability and his awareness.  He’s a very versatile football player who I believe is a strong 3rd or 4th round pick.

Denard Robinson, WR/RB, Michigan Everybody knows this young man and even though he gets a lot of attention I still believe he’s underrated.  At Michigan, he’s played QB, WR, and RB.  That says a lot to me.  He’s the definition of versatile.  I believe in the pros, he has the ability to play both WR or RB.  He’s tough, has great football I.Q. and is a great team player.  Based on what I have seen I have a 3rd round grade on him.

Nigel Malone, CB, Kansas St.
He’s definitely one of the most underrated players in the country.  He’s athletic, quick, and has elite instincts.  I wouldn’t bet against Malone.  He’s a smart football player who can play with the best of them.  I have a late 3rd round grade on him.

Vince Williams, LB, Florida St.
Williams is a quick and aggressive linebacker who really flashes at times.  He stood out at the Senior Bowl and I believe he is still an underrated prospect.  He’s a solid tackler who can blitz, rush the passer and drop into coverage.  I have a 4th -5th round grade on him and I think he will provide great value to teams in the middle of the draft.

Brandon Sharpe, DE, Syracuse
Sharpe is a really undersized DE for the NFL but he really shines on Syracuse’s defense.  He’s a good football player.  He’s stout against the run, provides a pretty good pass rush, extremely disruptive, and can even drop into coverage when asked.  I have a 4th round grade on him.  I am not sure where he will get drafted, but he will provide great value for any team that takes him.

Meshak Williams, DE, Kansas St.
Williams is an undersized DE who is a pretty good pass rusher who can also drop into coverage when asked.  He shows good technique and a great motor.  He’s a mid to late round prospect but I think he will provide terrific value to a team who will take a chance on him.  He’s got potential.

Alonzo Tweedy, S/LB, Virginia Tech
Tweedy is a project player who excels at special teams.  He also has skill set and potential to compete in the NFL.  He’s got a great motor, can rush the passer, and drop into coverage.  I think he has a nose for the football and is a solid tackler.  I think he will be a late round or free agent prospect but I think he could compete immediately for special teams time and provide depth on any defense.
