Ht: 6'5 Wt: 314 40: 4.88
Strengths:
Extremely athletic. Good height and weight. Long arms. Excellent pass protector. Has a good base. Is able to bend knees and gets into a strong anchor, which helps him not get driven back to the quarterback. Does a great job of recognizing blitzes and reacting to inside moves. Is able to mirror defenders, reacts quickly. Has good kick slide, but needs to be more consistent. He shows that he has great balance. He has a good initial quickness of the snap; especially for a player of his size. He can stick to his man very well. Uses his hands effectively, has a great initial punch. Pretty good in the running game. He is able to get to the second level very quickly. Understands his role in the run game and is able to block accordingly. He possesses good awareness. Very versatile; played LT and RT. Played against great competition.
Weaknesses:
Is not elite verses the run. Gets beat occasionally by speed rush DE's. Often reaches instead of moving his feet. Footwork needs improvement. He still does a good job of mirroring, but he could improve the quickness of his footwork. Had a broken during the 2006 season.
Summary:
Trent Williams is a very athletic tackle prospect coming out of the University of Oklahoma. I think he is a great pass protector. He will be effective at pass protection from day 1 in the NFL. He has a solid base; which helps him get into a strong anchor. He can mirror defenders and has a good kick slide. His main weakness in my opinion is run blocking. I do not see him being a strong run blocker in the NFL right away. He needs to learn to be more aggressive and to use his strength effectively. In conclusion, there are many things to like about Trent Williams; he is experienced, athletic, has tons of potential and will be able to contribute early on in his NFL career. I see him going off the board no later than Seattle at #14.
