Scouting Report: Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh

Strengths: Unbelievable size. Has great hands and shows terrific technique when catching the football. Pretty athletic and knows how to use his body to win jump balls (he catches them at the highest point). He plays physical and fearless; able to go across the middle. Is also able to beat the jam off the LOS. Works very well in the red zone; again he knows how to use his size for his advantage. He is able to find the soft spot in the defense. I would have confidence in his as a number 1 WR. Solid playmaker for Pittsburgh.

Weaknesses: Average after the catch; he gets a decent amount of yardage but when I watch him run I don't see a guy who is a home run threat. Route running is only average. Speed is also a concern; on tape I do not see good agility out of his cuts (which doesn't allow him to get separation) or good overall speed. This limits him as a vertical threat.

Summary: Jonathan Baldwin is one of the biggest WRs in the country. He is strong, physical and has reliable hands. He has true potential to be a number 1 WR in the NFL. He lacks good overall speed though and often does not look crisp when making cuts. This will lead to him not being able to create separation from CBs. Overall I like Baldwin as a prospect. I think he will succeed in the NFL. This year though, I would like to see him take that next step in his development. He is a good playmaker for the Panthers now, but in order to improve his draft stock he needs to prove he is more than that. He needs to take control of games; he needs to constantly draw double and triple coverages. He needs to completely change the gameplan of the opposing defensive coordinators. Jonathan Baldwin is good, but he has the potential to be great.
