Scouting Report: Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers

NFL Draft Analyst

Ht: 6'5 Wt: 323 40: 5.35

Strengths: Great size; has long arms. Athletic. Good pass blocker; shows very good upper body strength and knows how to use his hands effectively. Has a strong initial punch. Shows he has a good kick slide and can get into a very strong anchor. Shows good footwork, he can be very light on his feet at times. However he is highly inconsistent in this area; he is often caught very off-balanced. Shows ability to mirror defenders. He can be very quick for his size. Good, not great run blocker. Inconsistent; he can dominate opposing defenders and then get beat by the same defender on a different play. He knows how to finish blocks and will take his defender to the ground. He can get downfield and make blocks in the second level. Is able to pull and trap. Takes good angles when getting down field. Good experience. Has good versatility can play LT or RT.

Weaknesses: Highly inconsistent overall. Inconsistent techniques in run and pass blocking. Has a reputation of being an underachiever. Has had trouble with weight; came to Rutgers as a 363-pound freshmen. Poor intangibles. Stance could be improved. He is often caught very off-balanced when beaten by a moves (rip, swim ect); he needs to work on being more consistent with his footwork. Players can shed him occasionally once he tries to latch on to them.

Summary: Anthony Davis has a lot of talent. He has a great frame and size. He is very athletic and has the ability to be effective in both the run and the pass. I love the way he is able to use his hands so effectively. My biggest problem I have with Davis is his inconsistency. He can be very average at times, and very dominate at times. This needs to be improved and some will question his desire to improve in this area. Conditioning will also be a continual issue for Davis. There is no doubt he has a very talented skill set and a lot of talent. He has a great amount of potential and upside, but his poor intangibles and inconsistency will hinder many teams from taking him early in the first round of this year's draft.
