Scouting Report: Allen Bailey, DE/DT, Miami

Strengths: Great Size. Has a very powerful bull rush. Very strong; his strength is obvious on film. He is able to fight through the double team. Very versatile; started at linebacker, and has played both DE and DT positions. He plays very well at the DT position. He is able to use his superior strength to fight through double teams and is very effective against the run. He is a solid tackler. Good character and work ethic. Has a good amount of playing experience.

Weaknesses: Lacks an elite first step. Needs to be more consistent. Does not play fast. Needs to make decisions faster; often hesitates. Needs to improve his motor. He is very slow to disengage blockers. He is also slow at using spin and swim moves. Average pass rusher. Must learn to use his hands better to make it in the NFL. He cannot change directions quickly. He needs to add some bulk because he will probably play DT in the 4-3 or DE in the 3-4.

Summary: Allen Bailey has all the potential in the world. He is extremely strong and is able to use his strength so effectively. He is a terrific athlete and a good leader on and off the field. My problem with Bailey is his game tape; I do not see him being a standout player for Miami. He struggles to disengage, change directions, and use his hands properly. Also, he needs to become a more consistent player. Some plays he looks great and on others he disappears. Another concern for me is that I believe he is best suited to play a 5 technique (3-4 DE); and to play that he will need to add some bulk. Like I said though, Bailey has a ton of potential. He needs improvement in some key areas, but his strength and potential will probably get him drafted somewhere in the 2^nd round.
