Otwell's Draft

  1. Oakland Raiders—JaMarcus Russell—The Raiders will be tempted by the most talented player in the draft, but will ultimately fill their biggest and most pressing need in QB, by selecting JaMarcus Russell.
  1. Detroit Lions—Brady Quinn—This is also a team that will be tempted to select Calvin Johnson, but with Millen’s history of ruining WR’s careers, he would get booed out of town for taking another WR In the first round.  They say Kitna is their guy, but I am calling their bluff here, Quinn is their long term plan.
  1. Cleveland Browns—Adrian Peterson—The recent acquisition of Jamal Lewis only shows that the browns are going to split carries and groom the young Peterson.  Lewis only has another year or two left in him, before this team is handed to the unbelievably talented Peterson.
  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers—Calvin Johnson—The biggest WR prospect in quite some time wont make it past pick #4.  Tampa Bay filled their defensive needs with the acquisitions of Carter and June, and Petigout all but told me that they wont take Thomas here either.
  1. Arizona Cardinals—Joe Thomas—Ask Edgerrin James what the cardinals most pressing needs, and he may not admit it, but his numbers certainly prove it.  They need to fill their voids on the OL, before their investments at RB and QB will not be able to make plays.  Thomas will fit in nicely in Zona.
  1. Washington Redskins—Gaines AdamsWashington has many needs to fill on the defensive side of the ball, but will take a shot at the top rated DE in the draft this year.  They could also go after a DT or a SS, so Branch or Landry could be options.
  1. Minnesota Vikings—Dwayne Jarrett—The Vikings have a pressing need at WR and DE, but their defense was pretty solid last season, and they lacked a go to possession WR.  Jarrett will provide them with just that, with great hands and fantastic field awareness, he will fill that void nicely.
  1. Atlanta Falcons—Laron Landry—The Falcons traded up to get this spot from the Texans, and this was one of the toughest picks to make.  The falcons have an aging OL, so I they could go Levi Brown here.  Ultimately, the falcons have a bigger need in FS, and Landry is a freak of nature with a combination of size and speed, and will provide big play making abilities.
  1. Miami Dolphins—Levi Brown—This is also a tough pick to make, and Miami could look in the direction of DE, CB, or even WR in this pick.  The signing of Az Hakim and drafting Derek Hagan early last year, will surely make the Dolphins look to beef up their OL, by taking the human mountain, Levi Brown.
  1.  Houston Texans—Ted Ginn Jr.—The Texans are in need of a #2 WR, and a guy that can get up the field for the home run threat.  Ted Ginn possesses amazing speed, and should provide newly acquired QB Schaub with a guy that can get downfield.  Leon Hall and Alan Branch are possibilities here as well.
  1.  SF 49ers—Pat Willis—Willis amazed scouts at his pro day, with blazing 40 times and a physical presence that is absolutely scary.  The 49ers have other needs, but none greater than a dominating presence on defense, and Willis can certainly provide that.
  1. Buffalo Bills—Marshawn Lynch—Currently, the Bills starting RB is Shaud Williams, which will not cut it by any means.  No need is more pressing, and its almost certain that the Bills will select RB here with giving the pink slip to Willis McGahee.
  1. St Louis Rams—Lawrence Timmons—The Rams are in need of defensive help, and quick.  They need an outside pass rusher, and Lawrence Timmons possesses speed, and has great awareness to get to the QB.  They could also go CB here with Leon Hall, or FS with Reggie Nelson.
  1. Carolina Panthers—Greg Olsen—The Panthers are in need of a play making TE, and what better position here are they in to take one of the top TE prospects to come out of the draft in years.  Olsen possesses speed, great hands, and is a solid run blocker.  No brainer for the panthers here.
  1. Pittsburgh Steelers—Leon Hall—Pittsburgh is in need of a shut down corner with them going to the 3-4 defense now.  Some think that Hall is the NFL’s next shut down corner and the Steelers will take a shot at him.
  1. Green Bay Packers—Reggie NelsonGreen Bay could look at a few different places here, including RB and WR.  With a young Jennings and driver still on the team, they seem to be content at WR.  With both Peterson and Lynch being off the board, there is really no other 1st round talent at RB.  With the pack needing serious help at safety, and loving their dread locked DB’s, Reggie Nelson seems to be the best selection for them.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars—Jarvis Moss—The Jags seem to have a pattern of having big tall defensive fronts, and Jarvis will fit in nicely here.  Moss is a tall DE that can get around the corner, and get his long arms up to knock down passes, and kicks.
  1. Cincinnati Bengals—Alan Branch—Branch is difficult to pass on here for a team that could use an upgrade at DT.  They could look in the direction of an OLB, or a Safety here.
  1. Tennessee Titans—Robert Meacham—The loss of Drew Bennett and the fact that the FA market wasn’t over flowing with WR, is going to force the Titans to take a WR in the first round.  Meacham could very well be the 2nd best WR in this draft.  His impressive combine and great season will make Meacham the Titans guy.
  1. New York Giants—Paul Posluszny—The loss of Emmons and Arrington will almost certainly put a high need for a OLB with the New York Giants.  Posluszny will fit in the giants plans nicely.  They could also look at CB or DT here.
  1. Denver Broncos—Amobi Okoye—The broncos will take the risk of the draft with the young Amobi Okoye, whom has such a high ceiling with great potential.  The broncos could also look ILB here with Al Wilson looking to be on the way out.
  1. Dallas Cowboys—Chris Houston—Dallas is in need of help for Newman, and Houston has the potential to be a lock down corner, shutting down some of the top receivers in this draft in college.  Dallas could also look DE with this pick.
  1. Kansas City Chiefs—Sidney Rice—The Chiefs are in dire need of a productive WR, and the youth and talented Rice is very intriguing here for the chiefs.  Rice could be the guy they have been searching years for.  The Chiefs could also look DT, or ILB here with this pick.
  1. New England Patriots—Brandon Siler—New England loaded up on WR through Free agency, and with some aging ILB, they will look to inject some youth to that corp.  Siler is considered a close second to Willis, and could make start in his rookie season with NE.  The patriots could also look at CB or S here.
  1. New York Jets—Darrelle Revis—The Jets are in need of a shut down corner, and with the recent success Revis has had in his pro day, and a good showing at the combine, he has quickly moved up the board.
  1. Philadelphia Eagles—Michael Griffin—Dawkins isn’t getting any younger, and the eagles are in need of another safety, so they will select a hard hitting Michael Griffin to match the style of the aggressive eagles defense.
  1. New Orleans Saints—Adam Carriker—The Saints struggled on defense last year, and stopping the run and putting pressure on the QB was a major problem.  Carriker can do both, so this is the best option here, and the saints are counting their blessings he made it to them.  They could also look CB with this pick.
  1. New England Patriots—Aaron Ross—The patriots are aging at CB, and need to take a CB to put some youth back in the line up.  Ross is a good cover corner, and will look to start in his rookie season along side Samuel.
  1. Baltimore Ravens—Jamaal Anderson—Some think that Jamaal should go earlier In this draft but he seems to fit in perfect with the Ravens, and the Ravens are in need of a DE.  They could also look DT, or OLB with this pick.
  1. San Diego Chargers—Dwayne Bowe—The Chargers have struggled over the years to find a reliable WR, and they could have their man here.  Bowe is a big guy that has great hands, and could start immediately in this thin WR corp in San Diego.
  1. Chicago Bears—Justin Blalock—The Bears are aging up front, and at times, struggled to open up holes for runners to get through.  They will look to add the top OG to help spring new full time starter Cedric Benson.
  1. Indianapolis Colts—Jon Beason—Even though the colts played solid defense, there is nothing that makes us think that they wont go back to allowing large chunks of yardage on running plays.  They will look to ensure that they are taking steps in the right direction, by adding a young talented OLB in Beason.
