Strengths: Solid tackler. Very quick and aggressive. Can be a violent hitter. Sheds blocks well. Plays with good speed; looks fast. Good blitzer; pretty good pass rusher. Has ability to drop into coverage. Zone coverage is impressive; shows fluid hips for a linebacker. Has a nose for the football. Plays with emotion. Has pretty good awareness. Natural instincts.
Weaknesses: He needs to get low when tackling more consistently. There are times where I’ve seen him hesitate to make the tackle and there are times when he’s too aggressive and misses the tackle. He needs to find a good balance where he’s consistently aggressive yet under control. Needs to make a bigger impact on the game; tends to disappear at times. 40 time needs to be better, but he plays with great fame speed; I’m not too concerned with this. Injured his leg last spring.
Summary: Vince Williams stood out in film to me this season. I first noticed him as a quick LB who exploded into hits and seems to always be around the football. He plays with great speed, emotion and intensity. I was also really impressed with his coverage skills. There is still a lot of improvement he needs in this area, particularly in man coverage but he has the ability to get better. I could see him being a great value pick somewhere around the 4th or 5th rounds.
Draft Projection: 4th – 5th round
