Strengths: Elite size and strength.  Rare ability.  He is a special talent at the defensive tackle position.  Can be completely unstoppable at times.  Strength is elite.  Stout anchor; able to hold the line when focused.  He is strong enough to fight through double teams; but is inconsistent throughout games.  Can apply a pass rush.  Clogs up middle.  Teams usually apply double teams to him.  Has good technique when using pass rushing moves.  Solid tackler. So much potential to be elite in the NFL.  Very versatile; able to play in 3-4 and 4-3 defensive schemes.
Weaknesses:  Inconsistent overall.  Needs to be more dominant on each play.  Often lets linemen tie him up.  There’s tape where he is blocked one on one.  Loses focus at times.  Quickness off the ball needs to be better.  Hand use is very inconsistent.  Awareness needs to be better.  He needs to keep his feet moving when engaged.  Needs to give 100% all the time.

Summary: Star Lotulelie who started his college career at Snow College before transferring to Utah is one of the hot prospects in the 2012 NFL draft.  He is a special talent at DT for Utah.  He is powerful, strong and dominant at times; simply pushing through linemen like they are nothing.  The main concerning thing I see when I watch games of Lotulelei is the inconsistency in his play.  He has the ability to be a monster for the defense but he isn’t on every play.  He needs to become more consistent as a football player.  He has an unbelievable talent there’s no questioning that but I need to see consistency for him to be a top 10 pick.  Right now I have a top 20 grade on him.  He’s got talent to be special but he needs to show me that he can take the next step.
