Strengths: Extremely tough football player. Runs with a low center of gravity. Plays with great speed and shows true power. Consistently breaks arm tackles; he’s a very hard runner. Pretty agile and elusive for a bigger back. Shows good burst and is very quick to hit the hole. He has soft hands, very good receiver out of the backfield; he’s a 3 down back. Has a good motor; does not give up after initial contact, keeps his feet moving. Has great field vision and makes good cuts to follow the hole. Shows good patience. Not a lot of wear and tear on him.
Weaknesses: Pass blocking needs to be better. I didn’t see anything that really bothered me, but there are times where he missed his block. Needs to improve on this. Had a foot injury last spring.
Summary: Lacy is my number 1 RB in this draft. In my opinion he’s the complete package with natural talent. He’s a tough, hard runner, good receiver out of the back field and a player who can carry the load for an NFL offense. I really think he has terrific field vision, makes good cuts, has deceptive speed and is surprisingly elusive for a bigger RB. I expect Eddie Lacy to continue to rise up big boards and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was drafted somewhere in the top 15.
