Prospect:
Ndamukong, Suh, DT, Nebraska
Ht:
6’4 Wt: 302 40: 5.02
Strengths:
Uses his hands extremely well and shows tremendous strength when
fighting off blockers. He is able to stand up linemen, locate the
football, and position himself to make the tackle. Displays good
technique when using the swim and rip moves. He has good
awareness and reads screens really well. Has good technique when
in pursuit. Does a great job of penetrating into the backfield
and can be absolutely disruptive at times. He plays very well
against both the run and the pass, which is rare to find. He is
able to also play DE in the 3-4 defensive system. He is an
amazing playmaker, seems to always be around the football. In
2008,
he led the team in tackles, tackles for loss, sacks and was tied for
the leader in
interceptions.
Weaknesses:
Often misses tackles. Sometimes, although he is quick for his
size, he is not quick enough to catch the running back.
Occasionally he struggles vs the double team. He needs to work on
his consistency; at times he can be extremely disruptive but then there
are other times where he can get completely taken out of the
play. He has had multiple knee injuries and surgeries which bring
up huge concerns. He was flagged twice for dead ball personal
fouls during a game vs Virginia Tech in 2008. The first of those
two calls was questionable, but the other one was clearly a penalty
which shows a lack of discipline and self
control.
Summary:
Suh was clearly a dominant force last year for Nebraska. He is an
extremely powerful DT that is very versatile. He is able to stop
the run as well as rush the passer. That is something that is
very valuable for a defensive lineman. He has great awareness and
is able to read plays really well. Suh can be absolutely
unstoppable at times. The main area that Suh needs to improve on
is his consistency. Consistency is hard to improve but it is extremely
valuable. His injury history also will concern teams. If he
can prove to be just as dominant this year and stay healthy Suh is a
strong 1st round draft pick.
Draft Projection:
Early 1st round
