NFL Draft Prospect Interview: Michael Galassi, OT, Walsh
by Michael Abromowitz, 1/14/08.  Every year there are small school prospects to come out of no where and get drafted in the NFL.  This year, one of these prospects could be Michael Galassi, OT, Walsh.  Galassi started his college career at Kent State, before transferring to Walsh, an NAIA school.  This past season, Galassi was selected first team NAIA All-American for the second straight season.  Galasi played left tackle for Walsh, but due to injuries even played some center.

What is your accurate height, weight and forty time?
Michael Galassi:  6’ 5”, 315lbs., Forty Time 4.9.

Describe your game in three words or less.
Michael Galassi:  Aggressive, Strong & Fast

What do you feel is your greatest strength as a football player and what area do you feel you need to improve in?
Michael Galassi:  My greatest strength is my versatility. I can play Guard, Tackle or Center. I am very fast and strong. I feel that every player can improve somewhere in their game. I have excelled in my ability to be a great football player and a competitive one. Every level of playing was important to me. I was First Team All Ohio in High School; I was honored with being All American two years in a row in my college career.  I am always working on my physical strength and my speed.

What NFL player do you do you think you compare favorably to?
Michael Galassi:  I compare favorable to Joe Thomas.

Who is the best player you have faced during your career?
Michael Galassi:  Domatao Peko, I went up against him in the
Michigan State game. I had a great game against him.

What is your greatest football moment to date?
Michael Galassi:  Winning on the last play of the game against ODU. It was amazing, it was a 50 yd pass, and it kept us undefeated.

Did you have a favorite pro team growing up?  Favorite player?
Michael Galassi:  I love the Cleveland Browns. Joe Jurevicius is someone I know personally and I have always admired him during his football career.

Why did you transfer from Kent State, and what led you to Walsh?
Michael Galassi:  I had a bad semester at
Kent State where I had to sit out a year. I was advised by my coaches not to sit out my last year of playing time. Because of NCAA rules if forced me to go to another division outside of their organization. I revisited some colleges that I had scouted me when I was in High School. I choose Walsh because of the head coach. Coach Dennison is well known in the NAIA league. He was a great coach for Akron University before coming to Walsh, and he took great pride in getting his team together at Walsh to create a winning team.

Do you have any goals in mind when it comes to the NFL Draft?
Michael Galassi:  I want the opportunity to be looked at as a competitive player. I can play football against the best, and come out on top.

What is the one thing you will most miss at college?
Michael Galassi:
I will miss my football coaching staff and team mates.

Where is the best place to get a bite to eat in Canton, OH?
Michael Galassi:
Canton is known for having the most restaurants in town because of the Hall of Fame. I love a good steak and the best place to go to for that is Long Horn.

What was your favorite college course and why?
Michael Galassi:  Criminology. I had the opportunity to visit a Correctional Facility, it was an eye opener.

What should fans know about the NAIA and its quality of competition?
Michael Galassi:  The NAIA has some very competitive players. Some of the players also came out of the NCAA league to continue to play. They are fast and they have the desire to win. They have speed and they can hit hard.

Any pregame rituals?  Food?  Music?
Michael Galassi:  I close my eyes in the locker room and envision the game and who I am going up against. I always have good breakfast before every game. Eggs, bacon and toast.

What is something football fans may not know about you?
Michael Galassi:  I love watching my little brother play football and basketball when I get the chance. I also box and tear down houses for a demolition company.

Do you read mock drafts or what draft experts have to say?
Michael Galassi:  Yes, always. It gives me the motivation to be the best.

What do you plan to do once your playing career is over?
Michael Galassi:  I will have my degree in Criminal Justice. I would also love to coach at every level.  I want to teach kids what I have learned in the game.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions and good luck!
Michael Galassi:  Thank You.
