Well,
Pro
Days are over and there has been some moving and shaking amongst the
prospects.
All that is left to do are individual workouts and interviews, and with
only
little over a week left, there’s not much left to do for the prospects.
With
that, here is my latest 2 round projection (without trades):
1. Oakland-JaMarcus Russell, QB LSU
-Russell is bigger,
has a stronger arm, and has better
measurables than Brady Quinn, which is all Al Davis wants. He had a
phenomenal
Pro Day, and answered questions about footwork. Plus, he could go down
as the
best QB Sneaker of all time.
2. Detroit- Joe Thomas, OT Wisconsin
-From his combine
performance, this could be the safest pick
in the draft. However, with his pre-draft hype, it’s reminding me an
awful lot
of Robert Gallery.
Let’s hope for Matt Millen’s sake he turns out to be the franchise
tackle
everyone thinks he’ll be. They also could take Quinn, but it doesn’t
matter who
is throwing passes if they don’t have any time to throw.
3. Cleveland- Brady
Quinn, QB Notre Dame
-While I still think
this pick needs to be Adrian Peterson,
Quinn’s Pro Day locked up his spot at 3. With a much improved OL, Quinn
should
have enough time to spread the ball around to two dangerous weapons in
Braylon
Edwards and Kellen Winslow, Jr.
4. Tampa
Bay- Calvin Johnson, WR Georgia Tech
-Freak of nature,
plain and simple. 6’5 239 lbs and ran a
4.35 which an 11-7 inch Broad Jump. That is nasty. Tampa
Bay
becomes the luckiest team in
the history of the draft. Questions surround whether or not a team
trades up
and takes Johnson (and Peterson), but unless someone is willing to give
up
their whole draft and players Tampa
should NOT budge. Johnson is a truly unique prospect, and the Bucs need
to be
worried about a team trading up to snag him.
5. Arizona- Gaines
Adams, DE Clemson
-Explosive athlete
that can change games with his speed and
quickness. Arizona had
no threat
off the edge last year and Adams is a great
talent.
6. Washington- Jamaal Anderson, DE Arkansas
-Again,
no pass rushing threat last year. This will help out the secondary as
well. Was
dominant at times this season. Gets great penetration and can is a
solid anchor
against the run.
7.
Minnesota- LaRon Landry, S
LSU
-Had possibly the
most impressive workout in the combine,
showing speed that I did not think he possessed. I was not a believer
in Landry
but I now think he can play in this league. Minnesota
needs help at safety because Sharper isn’t getting younger and Dwight
Smith
isn’t close to elite.
8. Atlanta (from Houston) - Adrian Peterson, RB Oklahoma
-They made an
outstanding deal with Houston,
and they get arguably the best player in the draft. He’s in my opinion
the top
ballcarrier to come out in the last couple drafts. Power, speed, vision
and
toughness are just a few of his outstanding qualities.
9. Miami- Alan
Branch, DT Michigan
-Defensive Line is a
major need area for the Dolphins, who
are getting very old on that side of the ball. Branch is a great run
stopper
who will open things up for Channing Crowder.
10. Houston
(from ATL) – Levi Brown, OT Penn State
-While Brown is a
good player, his stock gets inflated
because of his position and the Texans need at the position.
11. San
Francisco- Patrick Willis, LB Ole
Miss
-I think that with
Mike Nolan being a defensive coach, he puts
pressure on the front office to take in my opinion the best football
player in
the draft. Willis will be phenomenal in any linebacker position in the
suddenly
talented 49er defense.
12. Buffalo- Marshawn Lynch, RB Cal
-While LB is their
most glaring need, with the trade of
McGahee they need help at Running Back badly. Lynch is a special back
and will
help out an improving offense.
13. St.
Louis- Leon Hall, CB Michigan
-Terrible pass
defense, plain and simple. Hall is a standout
talent with excellent size/speed combo that is great for a Cover 2.
14. Carolina-
Amobi Okoye, DT NC State
-Okoye is an
extremely talented player, and is still raw.
Once he develops he’s going to be an animal. Carolina’s
DT’s are always hurt and the Panthers are looking to trade Kris
Jenkins. Okoye
would bring in some great energy to a defense needing a bit of a boost.
15. Pittsburgh- John Beason, OLB Miami
-While
Jarvis
Moss fills a void as a pass-rushing OLB, I think they go with Beason
because of
the slow transition to the 4-3 under Mike Tomlin. Beason is a great
athlete and
a good pick for either defense.
16. Green
Bay- Greg
Olsen, TE Miami
-With decent options
on the outside at receiver, the Packers
take the super-athletic TE from The U since Marshawn Lynch is gone.
17. Jacksonville- Adam Carriker, DE
Nebraska
-Jacksonville
needs some form of a pass rush from the end spot and Carriker can bring
thatt.
18. Cincinnati-
Darrelle Revis, CB Pitt
-Cincy needs help in
their secondary desperately with the
loss of Tory James. Revis is being talked about as possibly being the
top CB in
the draft, and rightfully so.
19. Tennessee-
Ted Ginn, WR Ohio State
-The Titans need
help at many positions. Ginn satisfies
needs at receiver and in the return game, which they are sorely lacking
with
the loss of Pac Man.
They get a steal and a great weapon for Vince Young and Norm Chow to
use.
20. New
York Giants- Chris
Houston, CB Arkansas
-New
York’s
pass Defense was pathetic. Houston
has absolutely ridiculous physical attributes, with blinding speed and
amazing
strength. Instant starter.
21. Denver- Justin Harrell, DT Tennessee
-The Broncos’ DT
situation is disastrous and Harrell is
flying up draft boards. He’s got great toughness and talent and should
be a fixture
at DT.
22. Dallas
Cowboys- Dwayne Bowe, WR LSU
-While Dallas
kept Terry Glenn, he can’t go forever. Also, Terrell Owens isn’t
getting
younger and has had multiple surgeries on that hand. Oh yeah, he’s had
some
character problems, too. Bowe should not last this long, but if he does
he’s
got all the attributes to be a number 1 wideout.
23. Kansas
City- Joe Staley, OT Central
Michigan
-Yes, everyone
thinks they need a receiver, which they do.
But somehow they always seem to get by, don’t they? Their OL is in
desperate
need of an offensive tackle, and Staley is a perfect fit for their
system which
puts an emphasis on athletic tackles.
24. New
England- Paul Posluszny, LB Penn State
-Prototype Belicheck
player, with toughness, instincts, and
intelligence. Really boosted his status with solid 40 times at his pro
day. I
don’t know why he’s slipping so much, as he’s an outstanding linebacker.
25. New
York Jets- Aaron Ross,
CB Texas
-The Jets pass D is
awful as their corners are just not
good. Ross is possibly the most refined corner in the draft, and he was
the
Thorpe Award winner.
26. Philadelphia-
Robert Meacham, WR Tennessee
-Picking up Spikes
was huge, so they can afford to ignore LB
this round, especially if a gift like Meacham falls to them. He’s big,
fast,
and tough. Most importantly, he’s great after the catch, which is a
point of
emphasis in the West Coast offense.
27. New
Orleans- Marcus McCauley, CB Fresno State
-Big, physical, and
fast. Has all the tools to eliminate one
side of the field. However, I think he’s overrated. He is still an
improvement.
28. New
England- Brian Leonard, RB Rutgers
-I am a huge fan of
the multi-talented Leonard. He can be
used to spell Maroney and as a receiver out of the backfield. Another
prototype
Patriot.
29. Baltimore
Ravens- Jarvis Moss, DE/OLB Florida
-With the loss of
Adalius
Thomas they need someone to fill his role. Moss has great
athleticism and
can contribute big.
30. San
Diego- Dwayne Jarrett, WR USC
-San
Diego lacks a deep threat. Actually, they just
lack any
threat at receiver. Jarrett is in my opinion a great prospect that
gives SD a
big physical body on the perimeter.
31. Chicago-
Lawrence Timmons, LB FSU
-With Lance Briggs’
situation up in the air, they take his
heir in the speedy Timmons. He’s got great agility and speed to match
up with
receivers and drop back into zone. Great WLB.
32. Indianapolis-
Justin
Harrell, DT Tennessee
-Harrell
is a great talent and can immediately help the Colts porous run
defense.
Round

33. Oakland- Tony Ugoh, OT Arkansas
34. Lions- Drew Stanton, QB Michigan St.
35. TB- Charles Johnson, DE Georgia
36. Cleveland- Eric Wright, CB UNLV
37. Chicago (From NYJ) - Justin Blalock, OL Texas
38. Arizona- Ben Grubbs, OG Auburn
39. Atlanta (From HOU) – Brandon Meriweather, S Miami
40. Miami- Sidney Rice, WR South Carolina
41. Minnesota- Steve Smith, WR USC
42. San Francisco- Anthony Gonzalez, WR Ohio State
43. Buffalo- Antonio Pittman, RB Ohio State
44. Atlanta- Trent Edwards, QB Stanford
45. Carolina- Brandon Siler, ILB Florida
46. Pittsburgh- Ryan Kalil, C USC
47. Green Bay- Quentin Moses, DE Georgia
48. Jacksonville- Buster Davis, LB FSU
49. Cincinnati- Demarcus Tyler, DT NC State

59. NYJ- Anthony Spencer, DE Purdue
60. Miami (from NE) – Ryan Harris, OT ND
61. Baltimore- Craig Davis, WR LSU
62. San Diego- Eric Weddle, S Utah
63. NYJ (from Chicago) – Brando Mebane, DT Cal
64. TB (from IND) – Fred Bennett, CB South Carolina
