Default should pick

Hakeem Nicks outta UNC he had an amazing season last year and we need a receiver that doesnt just return kicks, that could be a possession receiver as well and Nicks can do that

Trade up with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 8th pick and give them our 25th and 56th pick in the second round. This puts us in a position to get either Everette Brown or a top two receiver.
We can then target the Duke Robinson (Oklahoma Guard) with our second pick at 44 and have a great left side to run behind.
From there go with best available athlete!

Post Dolphins 1st Rounder

Right now I feel it must be a CB unless someone of great value is available. CB is the biggest need with WR just behind it followed by NT and OLB.

However, I could see Miami taking an OLB because Porter is getting older and the person playing opposite him could be Matt Roth, more of a run stuffer, Charlie Anderson, more suited for special teams, or Cameron Wake, a CFL superstar who couldn't cut it in the NFL a few years ago. Plus, Parcells is always looking for the next Lawrence Taylor.

I doubt they take a WR at 25. This draft is pretty deep at the position and we saw last year that many draftniks and prognosticators overvalue WRs more so than front office types do. There will be a guy available that Miami will like at 44 or 56, someone like Brian Robiskie or Juaquin Iglesias.

I think the odds of Miami taking an o-lineman in the first two rounds is extremely small. They seem to like the depth and options they have at center and guard (Jake Grove, Samson Satele, Justin Smiley, Donald Thomas, Joe Berger, Andy Alleman, Shawn Murphy) that taking Duke Robinson would be overkill and a luxury Miami can't afford. However, I could see them taking a developmental OT in rounds 3 through 5.

I also think that it is doubtful they'd take DT's Peria Jerry or Evander "Ziggy" Hood. Both are better suited as DEs in the 3-4, though Jerry really may only have the skills to be a 4-3 DT. Sure Miami needs a NT for Jason Ferguson but Hood and Jerry couldn't do the job. And we don't need a first round 3-4 DE after taking Phillip Merling and Kendall Langford in the second and third round, respectively, last year.

The Dolphins are done trading draft picks. The only deal they'll do is trade down for more picks. It is very unlikely they try to trade up, especially into the Top 10 after having to pay Jake Long an exorbitant amount last year and with Ronnie Brown entering the final year of his deal. And if they were to trade up I think it would be if NT B.J. Raji falls a bit, but he won't get past Green Bay.

Default Miami's Draft

1st (25th pick): Sean Smith, S/CB, Utah
Height: 6-4. Weight: 214.
Projected 40 Time: 4.50.
Combine 40 Time: 4.53.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.47.
Benchx225: DNP. Vertical: 32.
Projected Round (2009): 1-2.
2/25/09: When you're compared to NFL Hall of Famer Mel Blount, you know you're having a great combine. Mike Mayock made that comparison. Sean Smith's 40 may have pushed him into Round 1.
2nd (44th pick): Kenny Britt, Rutgers - WR, Scouting Report
Height: 6-3. Weight: 218.
Projected 40 Time: 4.50.
Combine 40 Time: 4.48.
Vertical: 37. Broad: 10-4.
Projected Round (2009): 1-2.
2/23/09: Kenny Britt continues to have a strong combine. He ran a 4.48 at 6-3, 218. Pretty impressive. He could sneak into Round 1. Also like DT Ron Brace here.
2nd 2nd (56th pick)56th): Phil Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma
Height: 6-8. Weight: 332.
Projected 40 Time: 5.36.
Combine 40 Time: 5.54.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.45.
Benchx225: 26. Arm: 32.
Projected Round (2009): 2.
1/6/09: A member of the All-Big XII First Team and AP All-America Third Team, Phil Loadholt is a second-round prospect, but could be appealing to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh at the bottom of Round 1. If he drops we need depth at the position. If not Ron Brace, DT, Boston College
Height: 6-3. Weight: 330.
Projected 40 Time: 5.25.
Combine 40 Time: 5.47.
Benchx225: 32. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): 2.
1/10/09: The monstrous Ron Brace collected 10 TFL and 2.5 sacks in 2008. He'll be highly sought after toward the end of Day 1, as quality nose tackles are hard to come by. Maybe he will drop to the 56th pick, I have seen a lot worst things happen in the draft in the last 10 years. I also know that Miami could upgrade the TE position, so Miami could look for a TE with this pick here. Jared Cook, TE, South Carolina
Height: 6-5. Weight: 246.
Projected 40 Time: 4.61.
Combine 40 Time: 4.50.
Benchx225: 23. Vertical: 41.
Projected Round (2009): 2.
2/22/09: Jared Cook ran the second-fastest 40 for tight ends at the NFL Combine this decade (Vernon Davis). He also had the top vertical (41 inches) and broad jump (10-3). Cook undoubtedly raised his stock, though he tweaked his hamstring and couldn't participate in the drills.
3rd round (87th pick): Herman Johnson, RT, LSU
Height: 6-7. Weight: 356.
Projected 40 Time: 5.45.
Combine 40 Time: 5.53.
Benchx225: 21. Arm: 36 1/2.
Projected Round (2009): 2-3.
3/18/09: Herman Johnson has "slimmed down" to 356 pounds. He's trying to prove that he can play right tackle in addition to guard.
Brian Robiskie, WR, Ohio State - Scouting Report
Height: 6-3. Weight: 209.
Projected 40 Time: 4.48.
Combine 40 Time: 4.49.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.52.
Vertical: 37.5. Broad: .
Projected Round (2009): 2-3.
Gerald McRath, OLB, Southern Miss
Height: 6-2. Weight: 231.
Projected 40 Time: 4.56.
Combine 40 Time: 4.61.
Benchx225: 19. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): 2-3.
2/22/09: Gerald McRath put on a much-needed 11 pounds, weighing in at 231. This is good OLB who can also play SS if he lost 10lbs. I know Miami pick up some CB's and Safety's in FA, but I do not think Miami is happy at this position and it was the weekest position Miami had last year. Anyone of these player's might drop to the third round and be a steel for Miami, but pick one here would be good. If anyone of these player's drop here I will be more then happy. This is a dream draft for Miami to be able to have these player's fall into there lap at any of these spots in the draft. GOOD LUCK MIAMI.

Post Look for Miami to trade the 25th pick

Unless someone they perceive as a "can't miss prospect" falls to them at 25, I fully expect the Dolphins to trade down. Parcells/Ireland/Sparano want more picks. They could pick up an additional 3rd rounder if they moved down from 25 to 28-35.

They know what they need (CB, NT, WR are tops with OLB and OL depth secondary). If they don't value any of the players still on the board when their pick nears they'll drop down a few slots. This isn't an overwhelming group of CBs, the position they must address ASAP. Sure it's a deep class but it is not top heavy. They'd get much better value for Darius Butler, Alphonso Smith, or Sean Smith in the early second round. And as we saw last year, WRs tend to fall on draft day so they could conceivably land one of the big WRs they are considering a few picks later while adding an additional selection. It's a win-win for them.

Miami currently has 9 selections: 25, 44, 56, 87, 108, 161, 181, 214, and 237. The front office would like at least 10 and possibly as many as 12. The Dolphins want to deal. Expect it to happen.

I would take a runstoper in first round need one reel bad then cb or olb we got burnd bad last year at cb. olb will be a killer russer.then a wr 1 that can get off his player and get open, no matter who gets in his way. the other players will come if are cards can be played wisely may the best players win.heads will role if they dont put on there i will not pick a bad player thinking hats on. the players should make a good impack there first year.so do your home work on your players and pick players that can play 1 or 2 positions on the field.oh by the way if the player can not play with heart and soul he may not deserve big money next year oh there surprise pick might be you ready for this qb i have been a dolphin fan for 51 years. the qbs did great but not that great. they past on a qb last year so this is the year.maybe in the first round or next to all most the last picks they surprised me last year with there picks.SO GOOD LUCK ON MIAMI PICKS AND MAY THE BEST PLAYER GET HIS PLAY TIME thats all i got to say about that unknown writer
