2008 Fantasy Football Kicker Rankings
by Michael
Cooper
Radio Host
7/27/08
#1 Stephen
Gostkowski, New England Patriots – Highest scoring offense in all of
football – he’ll be #1 on extra points alone
#2 Nick Folk,
Dallas
Cowboys – Rookie Pro Bowl kicker on the second best offense in Football
#3 Rob Bironas,
Tennessee Titans – The only offense on a team that can’t score
touchdowns but does move the ball
#4 Robbie
Gould,
Chicago Bears – until the Bears acquired Kevin Jones he was their #1
scoring option – he doesn’t kick 50 plus but doesn’t miss many under 49
#5 Mason
Crosby,
Green Bay Packers – As a rookie became the top scorer in the league –
can’t keep him out of the top 5 after that performance
#6 Shayne
Graham,
Cincinnati Bengals – a model of consistency on a great offense and he
doesn’t miss
#7 Nate
Kaeding, San
Diego Chargers – just gets better every year and has the best kicking
percentage of any active kicker
#8 Phil Dawson,
Cleveland Browns – killed the Ravens last year with a 50 yard dagger
and his team is even better this year
#9 Tie Ryan
Longwell,
Minnesota Vikings – much improved team and he hit his career long last
season in the dome
#9 Tie Josh
Scobee,
Jacksonville Jaguars – I left him out on our radio show but Paul
convinced me - plus he lead his team in scoring last year and missed
half the season
#10 Tie Taylor
Mehlhaff, New Orleans Saints – After Folk and Crosby’s success I’m no
longer afraid of rookie kickers unless they play for the Chiefs
#10 Tie
Lawrence
Tynes, New York Giants – how many kickers do you know who have been on
David Letterman
#11 Josh Brown,
St.
Louis Rams – mystery of the year – why do so many people have this guy
rated #1 on a second rate team
#12 Adam
Vinatieri,
Indianapolis Colts - his best days seem to be behind him – longest
field goal last season was only 39 yards
#13 Kris Brown,
Houston Texans – exciting kicker capable of making five or six field
goals in a game on a regular basis
#14 Jeff Reed,
Pittsburgh Steelers – there’s a new offense in town and he will
continue to benefit from it
#15 Neil
Rackers,
Arizona Cardinals – when you make 95 percent of your field goals a
couple of years back this becomes an honorary spot
#16 Jason
Hanson,
Detroit Lions – out of respect we put this veteran here despite an
offense that will stink it up again
#17 Jason Elam,
Atlanta Falcons – after Michael Turner, this guy is their #1 weapon on
offense and despite losing that thin air he gains a dome
#18 Mike
Nugent, New
York Jets – very talented kicker on an anemic offense
#19 Matt
Bryant,
Tampa Bay Buccaneers – when you hit one from 62 yards you stay on my
list forever
#20 Tie David
Akers,
Philadelphia Eagles – the offense returns this season and he scores a
lot
#20 Tie Shaun
Suisham, Washington Redskins – a much-improved team with new coaching
spells good things for this guy
#20 Tie John
Kasay,
Carolina Panthers – the dean of NFL kickers who remains a top weapon on
that team
#20 Tie
Sebastian
Janikowski, Oakland Raiders – if you’re in a league that takes points
away if he misses – stay away – but if your league gives you extra
points from 40 and beyond this is your secret weapon – he can make them
from 70 and one day he’ll do it in a game situation
