Don't Draft a Kicker
by Paul Eide
Fantasy Football Director
8/14/08

This is a brief summary of why you should not take a kicker until the final round of your draft no matter what. Kickers are a flash in the pan from a fantasy perspective because kickers have the least control of all fantasy positions over their level of production.

Since 2005, no single kicker has finished in the top three beyond a single season. Last year only four top ten kickers from 2006 (Brown, Hanson, Gould and Graham) were able to replicate that feat 2007. In 2006 only four top ten kickers from 2005 (Rackers, Graham, Wilkins and Brown) were able to repeat.

One more stat:  since 2005 the previous season’s highest ranked kicker has finished an average of 13th best the following year.
