College Football Predictions - Clemson vs. Georgia Tech

I’m going on record last minute with the Thursday night pick, but since I’ve got both teams ranked I better have an opinion right?

Clemson (1-0) @ Georgia Tech (1-0): This game is all about the running backs. Dwyer vs. Spiller is how it is being billed as if the pair will be put through an NFL combine style workout with scouts holding up scorecards to determine the winner. A few other guys are going to be involved – I think. Namely the defenses on either side. Nothing can really be gained from each team chomping a cupcake last week. The Tigers put down Middle Tennessee State 37-14  while Georgia Tech stung Jacksonville State 37-17. The one negative for Clemson is needing a lot of return yards to help them put away a lesser opponent. Most of their damage was done on special teams. I’m not suggesting they should have run it up, but their offense wasn’t exactly hot.

Georgia Tech was sloppy, to put it mildly in their game. Spiller is banged up and reports he is at full strength. On a short week I need more convincing. It’s the dreaded coin flip game. Clemson disappointed me so much last year and Georgia Tech pleasantly surprised me so I’m giving them a close one: Georgia Tech 23, Clemson 20
