4/30/08, 5:50 PM EST (thoughts before the draft)
One day until the draft.  You are probably wondering how I feel right now. I'm relaxed and laid back just chilling.  I just wanna play football. That's it, play football.  I'm a football player.  I'm glad this part of the process is coming to a end.  I feel good about everything that I have done up to this point, as far as workouts, interviews, staying out of trouble no matter what it may be, I feel like I've been on top of my game. I've been doubted since I decided to declare, unstandably so I'm a blue collar player. And those of you who are blue collars like me then you know you don't get much love unless someone really takes the time and watch film.  Not highlight tapes but film. Anyone can look good in a highlight tape. You get the right video people and they can make Hey Arnold, Tommy Pickles, Papa Smurf, Tom and Jerry, Simba and the waterboy from the Texas-Arizona State bowl game look like some all time greats.

Tommorrow is a special day too a lot of athletes just remember no matter where you are drafted you still got to show up and play.  Rather you are the #1 or #252 pick you still got to show up and do your thing.

Congratulations Jake Long. That's big time. Let me borrow 20 dollars lol. Just joking. I was reading a book the other day and yea I can read.  I was never hooked on phonics. Anyway, basically the book said what you think affects how you feel and how you feel affects how you act. Which means every action starts with your thoughts. If you can change the way you think about things then you can control the way you talk and act about certain situations.  As a young athlete, people expect us too mess up; that's just the way it is.  Think about it.  As soon as an athlete messes up it is every where.  ESPN (which will air it about 30 times all day), but I love the show lol, the news, the magazines, the newspapers.  Every where! They expect for you to mess up.  It could be something simple that goes on everyday in the world: DUIs, fights, strip clubs, parties, but what we got to remember is that we are public figures.  We are held at a higher standard than other people.  No one cares if John Doe gets pulled over for drinking and driving, but if I was to get in trouble for it, it would be on everything.  Is it fair?  I believe so because a lot of kids and adults and teenagers look up to us.  So as a role model how do you act?  Would you want your lil bro or sister falling in your footsteps?  When was the last time you heard of a doctor or lawyer getting in trouble?  Exactly. Partially because the world doesn't want doctors being looked down upon because everyone needs a doctor.  But athletes we come a dime a dozen.  We are everyone’s favorite to love and hate.  I know I know I know.  But, what are we suppose to do to have fun?  You can still do all the things you have been doing but now there is a right way and a wrong way.  You know the differences.  When you have a lot of money you are a target.  Paris Hilton for example.  Do u know what she does?  Neither do I lol, but I know she's loaded hahaha so she's a target.  Michael Vick, Pacman, Chris Henry, Jared Allen. Think before you act now.  You are probably saying, “What about all your tattoos Marty? You look like a gangbanger” lol, but I'm not, I just like art.  But don't try me cause I can fight just to let you know.  I could have been a boxer.  Anyway, that was just on my heart.   A lot of good people make the wrong choices,  let's try not to be one.  Have I messed up, yea but nobody is perfect.  But take responsibility for yours and learn from them.  Well I'm out

Peace Love and Happiness, Marty B

Hello World. Went back to good ole Texas A&M today for the spring game. It was pretty exciting.  The team looked pretty good. Michael Goodson is a special running back and should be a Heisman hopeful.  My brother Michael Bennett looked superb out there. Stephen McGee looked really good too.  You might see a little double QB threat next year.  Pierre Brown should be the big play receiver next year, he's a great talent. Overall they looked great!  Coach Sherman is doing a hell of a job.

Going back to the school and being on the field and seeing all the fans and teammates made me realized how fast it went by and that not to many things last forever. You will always have your memories though.  You've never been to a football game, till you go to one in college station.  We have the best of everything.  Check us out.

But seeing that nothing lasts forever makes me realize that we live for today and hope for tomorrow.  And thats why you should be grateful for the present.... Which is just that, a gift!  A present.  And all God’s blessings are gifts.  I love gifts!  I love Christmas!  The only thing about these gifts is that you don't get to unwrap pretty gift wrapping paper.  But they are usually unexpected which is even better.  Everyday is a holiday so celebrate today.   Tomorrow isn't promised, but you should be prepared for it.

And the million dollar questions for the week are (drumroll please lol):

Where are u going to go in the draft?
Mmmm let me call Mr. Bill Parcells and plead my case lol.  I have no idea, I don't even think the teams have an idea till it is their turn to pick.

Oh the other question is who u want to play for?
Mmm let me see how about anyone anywhere.  I don't care in all reality.  I'm unemployed and looking for work.  Picture me on the side of the Cowboy Stadium or Reliant Stadium with a sign that says “will play for food and shelter.”  Don't worry, I'm not going to tell any GMs that. Lol.  They would probably try and pay me with chicken bones and macaroni and cheese and some kool aid lol.  Or better yet, they would call me in the office on pay day and be like here's your menu for the week lol.

I know people are probably wondering what a kid does right now that is in the draft?
And the answer is just wait.  That is it and continue to stay fit.  My friends call and ask me what I'm doing while I’m waiting.  In all actuality, we've done everything we could.  We ran, we jumped, we talked, we flew, we drove, we spent numerous hours in the hospitals lol some of us to get an MRI or X-ray on something we've never even hurt before, we've been poked, pulled, twisted, we've been looked at like a horse in an auction lol.  The combine was like a meat market; everyone was looking for a good steak.  But it is all over now.  After all that we just wait.

Hey Sara D thanks for the love and support, I know it has been rough, but you got it.  Shout out to Jamaal Charles, Malcolm Kelly, Red Bryant, DeSean Jackson, Justin Forsett.  Oh and the Cleveland Cavaliers, LeBron is a beast. Oh yea, just in case Lupe Fiasco, Lil Wayne, or TI read this, holla at me, I got a hot verse for your new tracks. Lol.  I'm out Peace Love and Happiness

During this process I have built plenty of muscles and endurance, but the ones that I have been building the most is my heart, my mind, and my spiritual muscles.  I bet you didn't even know you had those. I believe these are your most important muscles; they give you the ability for much more than just playing football.  They give you an unseen confidence as walk around with a glow. Like Bruce Leeroy in that old movie, if you recall he was the black version of Bruce Lee. Lol. Anyways to exercise these muscles you don't have to go to church, it would be nice to, but you don't have to. Just like you don't have to go to the gym to workout your biceps or triceps. It works the same way. You can exercise these muscles by studying your Bible at home. You can do it alone or you can do it with a buddy.  Just like any other workout its better with a buddy. Kinda like you can get youurself a Bowflex or total gym and workout at the crib.  I wonder if those actually work though.  Lol.  It’s the same with your spiritual workout. I'm no T.D. Jakes or Joel O'Steen but it is just a little for you too think about.  It will help you out a whole lot.

Another thing I have developed during this process is patience. Whew. Lord knows I've been needing that. If it’s waiting on a plane or in the slowest security line in the world – ATL, lol (We're never totally satisfied, it's human nature...lol, because if we weren't complaining about the longevity of the long lines or the pace in which they maneuver the situation we would definitely be complaining about the fast rapid approach in the event the total opposite occurred; not to mention the fact that we would feel they weren't doing as good of a job to make us feel total security and safety throughout the process), on a ride or in traffic trying to rush to get to the airport or home.  I'm glad I've been able to build this characteristic, I'd be in a white padded room if I didn't with a name like Crazy T the 4th.  Lol.  I've always liked the 4th since I played with Acie Law.

We have about a week before the draft. It has come soooo fast I remember pulling out my hair trying to decide rather I should come out or not (declare for the draft).  Now it is about time to start pulling out my hair waiting on whether I'd be picked or not. Lol.  I'm glad I'm black and have really short hair lol otherwise I'd have a culvasac like George Jefferson right about now.  But by developing my spiritual muscles and patience I'm ready for anything.  I'm just waiting like the other 251 of you coming out of college, but don't forget about the 300 free agents or so, oh and don't forget about the 150 guys in the world that were out of the league last year trying to come back.  Don't forget about the retired trying to come back either. Lol.  I feel sorry for you QBs, Mr. Farve is looking for work. Lol.  You add all that up getting a chance of being drafted in any round is a good look.  Oh and don't pay attention to these mock drafts, sh** I'm thinking about having my own.  I don't think those guys actually sit down and evaluate every single one of us on film I mean come on let's be honest. They probably seen one game on you and think they are able to tell how good you are in your one game.  Sh** even Michael Irvin and Troy Aikman had a bad game. Only you know how good you are.  So when you get a chance to show them, do it now.  If you go out there and look bad well geez maybe it isn't for you.  And remember Tom Brady was a 6th round pick.  Shout out to My Fam: Mom, Dad, Ashley, Mike, and my girl Lillian.  Oh yeah can't forget about the new editions to the fam:  Herc and Zena (my Cocker Spaniels), Miracle (Corky), and Marty (Labradoodle)... I'm out. Peace Love and Happiness, Marty B

Every morning I wake up to a beautiful voice telling me I need to get up; giving me an update of the weather of where ever I may be or I am going and have important things to get done.  I be like damn baby, you trippin, 5 more minutes. Lillian doesn't play that sh**, though she knows me too well, that’s my girl, my best friend, my companion, she keeps me grounded which I think everyone needs through this process. (Its easy to get on your high horse, but in reality if you aren't Jake Long, Chris Long, Glenn Dorsey, Darren McFadden or Matt Ryan then sh**, you don't know where u are going to end up really.)  They really don't know, but they have an idea.  Lol. Humbleness will save you a lot of embarrassment on draft day.

I know I'm not the only one who is ready for this process to be over and just want to play football.  Just 11 more days until we know.  Team visits are coming around.  Traveling is tough on the body visiting teams, eating delicious food everyday, and meeting with more and more people.  Don't get me wrong all of the visits have been great, it’s just tiring. I'm not complaining, this is part of the process.  One day you are sitting at home then all of sudden hey your flight leaves at such and such time to visit such and such team.  Bam! You jump up, get something nice to wear, hope you have a nice clean cut, you pack and the next day you are on your way to the airport.  Some are one day trips, some are two day trips.  Different teams do it different ways. The toughest part about it is that you never know what the team is thinking. Lol, it’s very interesting. Each team can only bring 30 players out.  How many they bring you never know. It’s hard to stay on your normal workout regiment because of the time changes and how fatigued you are when you come back home.  So u want to take a day off then you realize you have another trip coming up. All in all it is getting closer, and the only thing I can do is stay true to myself the people and things I believe in.  Shout out to all the tight ends. Ya’ll got game, I watched ya’ll on film. I got a headache from the plane.  Sitting in between two fat people isn't comfortable at all.  They should reserve the emergency aisle for the tall.  Lol.
