1. Oakland
Raiders—JaMarcus Russell. QB.
LSU.
Al Davis loves big arms and Kiffin and Russell will have a
chance to mature together.
2. Detroit
Lions-- Joe Thomas.
OT. Wisconsin.
Detroit
takes a
look at Quinn here but needs a can’t miss type prospect like Thomas.
Did well
to draft Simms last year and two productive rookies in a row would go a
long
way in making people not hate Matt Millen.
3. Cleveland
Browns—Alan Branch. NT.
Michigan.
Everyone knows, especially around Cleveland
that the O-line is a bigger problem than the D-line. However, Branch is
a stud
true NT and Romeo is sticking to the 3-4. Brady
is also an option, but with the Browns
wanting to run a west coast system, Frye could be successful.
4. Tampa
Bay
Buccaneers—Brady Quinn. QB. Notre Dame.
They game Simms an extension but I am not sold that he is
their man. Johnson could get a look here as the best player in the
draft, but
the ‘Bucs take Brady instead. If not, it is possible but not likely
that Quinn could
slide to Miami at nine.
5. Arizona
Cardinals—Jamaal Anderson. DE. Arkansas.
A monster off the edge. With the offense set, or so it
seems, the Cards go with some much needed help on the front seven.
6. Washington
Redskins—Gaines Adams. DE.
Clemson.
18 sacks in 16 games
for the Redskins last year. Enough
said.
7. Minnesota
Vikings—Calvin Johnson. WR.
Georgia Tech.
The best player in the draft falls all the way to seven. Minnesota
finally gets a go-to guy again and he and Tarvaris Jackson should form
a nice
duo in the future.
8. Houston
Texans—Adrian Peterson. RB. Oklahoma.
Since he doesn’t go number two or number three, he slides
down to Houston. However,
if Tampa
wins the coin flip with Cleveland,
and takes the player Cleveland
is
targeting at three, Browns could snag AP at four.
9. Miami
Dolphins—Leon Hall. CB. Michigan.
Lacks top speed but
Miami
could use some help in that secondary. Jason Allen was inconsistent but
putting
someone like hall along side him could make them both very good. Will
benefit
from a nice pass rush. Could reach for Troy Smith here but give
Culpepper a
grace period.
10. Atlanta
Falcons—Ted Ginn Jr. WR. KR.
Sprinter. Ohio State.
I personally am not sold on Ginn as an NFL WR. However, his
speed is lethal and he does have some hands. The Falcons need that
badly. Could
also go secondary with Landry (LSU) here.
11. San
Francisco 49ers—Dwayne
Jarrett. WR. USC.
49ers are disappointed Ginn is gone and consider going with
secondary help. However, the idea of a maturing Alex Smith, a prolific
Gore,
and a healthy Vernon Davis is just too good not to pull the trigger on
this
pick.
12. Buffalo Bills—Levi Brown. OT. Penn State.
Bills need help here bad. Encouraged by last season, they
want to see what Losman and Willis can do with some actual protection.
Could be
interesting.
13. St. Louis
Rams— LaRon Landry. DB. LSU.
Rams continue to need some help all over this side of the
ball. LB is tempting but Landry being available at this point is a huge
value.
A true safety, he has good cover skills.
14. Carolina
Panthers—Reggie Nelson. DB. Florida.
Nelson is as good as Landry. After The Thomas Davis
Experiment at safety, they find a true safety to roam with Minter and
help
Gamble over the top. Could get a lot of picks right away with that
front seven
in Carolina.
15. Pittsburgh
Steelers—Patrick Willis. LB. Ole
Miss.
LB’s are aging so they take the best one available. Despite
mediocre record, they are still a very deep and very good team. This
pick is
almost a luxury no matter what direction they go with it.
16. Green Bay
Packers—Marshawn Lynch. RB. Cal.
Outstanding runner and could go higher come April. Green is
aging and Lynch is a homerun hitter that The Pack hasn’t had in a
while.
17. Jacksonville
Jaguars—Jarvis Moss. DE. Florida.
Big need here for the Jags. Could go with Moses or even
Carricker at this point. However, they take the hometown hero who’s
stock is
soaring after a dominant performance against the Buckeyes.
18. Cincinnati
Bengals—Quentin Moses. DE. Georgia.
Bookends nicely with Justin Smith. A solid pick value wise.
Also, a pretty clean record. The pick just makes sense.
19. Tennessee
Titans—Justin Blalock. OG. Texas.
They have to do something about prolonging VY’s career. This
might be a reach as of now, but with good workouts, he could rise
quickly. WR
is tempting but with the big four gone already, they don’t reach for
Meachem,
Gonzalez, or Rice. O-Line is a bigger need.
20. New York
Giants—Lawrence Timmons. LB. Florida State.
Arrington is just okay when he is healthy and this is a
position of need even if he is. I think they give Jacobs a year as the
workhorse to see what he’s got. Could also go corner or RB with Pittman
maybe
being considered.
21. Denver
Broncos—Marcus McCauley. CB. Fresno State.
Broncos have to do something at that spot after the tragic
death of Darrent Williams. Between McCaulley and Revis, I think they go
McCaulley because he is more of a true cover guy.
22. Dallas
Cowboys—Michael Griffin. S.
Texas.
They need help at O-line and safety and with Blalock gone, Griffin
seems obvious as he is the best safety left. Paired with Roy Williams,
the
defensive backfield will be much improved.
23. Kansas City
Chiefs—Amobi Okoye. DT. Louisville.
Will probably wind up climbing significantly by draft day
but at this point, I think that Herm does well to grab the youngster
(19) at
pick 23. Could go Pittcock or Tyler as well if Okoye is gone.
24. New England
Patriots (from Seattle
Seahawks)— Darrell Revis. CB.
Pitt.
With Samuel a free agent and an aging defensive backfield,
this pick is wise. Revis slides a little bit due to guys like Blalock
going
higher than expected.
25. New York
Jets—Michael Bush. RB. Louisville.
He and Washington together could be a very nice combo of
size and speed. Could also go DE here with Charles Johnson or perhaps
even WR
with Rice or Gonzalez. RB is biggest need.
26. Philadelphia
Eagles—Lamarr Woodley. OLB/DE. Michigan.
LB is a need here. Could go with Posluszny but Woodley’s
versatility is attractive. Good pass rusher. Safety is a need here as
well but
there is no safety that has emerged yet worthy of this pick that is
still on
the board.
27. New Orleans
Saints— Zach Miller. TE. Arizona State.
Offense was prolific last year without a real threat at TE.
Miller gives them that. Could also consider corner after the way that
Thomas
got manhandled and embarrassed by Rex and the Bears.
28. New England
Patriots—Paul Posluszny. LB. Penn State.
New England’s LB’s
are slow and old.
PP is a good upgrade and a good value toward the bottom of the round.
Do not
rule out Brian Leonard from Rutgers at this
point
either.
29. Baltimore
Ravens—Buster Davis. LB. Florida State.
Could lose some talent at this position to the free agent
market. Davis is quick and
a hard
hitter that fits right in. Plus, With youth at this spot, the team will
be
ready to reload when Ray and The Vets decide to hang them up. Troy
Smith also a
possibility here.
30. San Diego Chargers-- Dwayne
Bowe. WR. LSU.
What do you
get the team that has
everything but a WR? Well, you get them a pro-ready, big, fast WR at
the bottom
of the round. Marty is delighted that he falls this far. He is
currently on the
rise
31. Chicago
Bears—Sidney Rice. WR. South Carolina.
Bears could go LB but need a high powered WR more. Muhammed
has been underproductive and injured. Rice is a nice value down here
and falls
into the Bears lap.
32. Indianapolis
Colts—Quinn Pitcock. DT. Ohio State.
Colts run defense was terrible. Some of that had to do with
Sanders and Doss being out but more of it had to do with their line
being below
average. Best DT available is the pick unless they go LB.
Just
Missed
Adam Carriker, DE, Nebraska
Troy Smith, QB, Ohio State
Tank Williams, DT, NC State
HB Blades, LB, Pittsburgh
