Every year, there are players who make a name for themselves at the combine. Here is a quick list of some of the players who I thought really stood out.
Robert Griffin, QB, Baylor
Griffin ran a fantastic 40 time at Indianapolis and showed terrific athleticism. Griffin's stock is soaring right now; he almost certainly will be the number 2 overall pick this year.
Doug Martin, RB, Boise St.
Martin is continuing to have a terrific off season. I was very impressed with his weight in (223) and his 40 time (4.55). The 28 reps on the bench are pretty impressive as well. Martin also showed smooth ability to catch passes during drills. He is more and more becoming one of my favorite prospects in this draft.
Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis
I had a late first round grade on Poe before the combine, now he could be a top 20 pick. His size and athleticism is unreal. He weighed in at 346 lbs and still ran a 4.87. On top of that he did 44 reps on the bench press. Poe looks like he will be a beast in the NFL.
Jayron Hosley, CB, Virginia Tech
Hosley not only ran a very fast 40 (4.47) but he looked great in most drills. I am a fan of Hosley; I believe he has potential and could develop into a quality player in the NFL.
Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
Floyd ran faster than anyone thought he would, so that's why I felt I needed to add his name to this list. He's currently my number 2 rated receiver (behind Blackmon) so running this fast only helps his stock. He's got potential to be a number 1 WR in the NFL.
Kendall Reyes, DT, UConn
Reyes; who has been a rising prospect over the last month, had a great combine. He has good size (6'4 299) and great strength to go along with that (36 reps on the bench). At this point, I believe Reyes is an early 2nd round pick who could be taken late in the 1st round of the draft.
Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech
Hill surprised everyone by running a 4.30 at the combine. He's 6'4 215 lbs so running a 4.3 is incredible. He only had 28 receptions last year, but that's mostly because of Georgia Tech's offense. He improved his stock tremendously to say the least at the combine. Previously I had a 3rd/4th round grade on him, but I've seen mock drafts where he's in the first round now. The ability that Hill possesses is rare, so he will probably be a high pick this April.
