Top 5 Players Who Have Impressed Me This Year
NFL Draft Analyst
November 23, 2010
1. Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma St.
He has 1,560 yards receptions and 17 TDs this season……as a sophomore. Blackmon has been unbelievable this season. He has been stellar in every game he has played this year. He is an absolute playmaker for Oklahoma St. He has good, not great size and speed, but he knows how to make plays and get the football. He comes with some major character concerns though; he was arrested earlier this year for DUI.
2. Cameron Jordan, DE, Cal
Jordan is perhaps the best 3-4 DE I have watched this season. He clearly stands out when you watch the California defense. He has a nonstop motor. He plays an aggressive style that I love to watch. He has definitely really stepped up this year and he will most likely be a first round pick this April.
3. Brandon Harris, CB, Miami
Harris is having a great season. He has improved a lot since last season, which is exciting. He is solid in coverage and also is not afraid to be a force in run support. He can make INTs, has confidence, and rarely allows the WR to get separation. His footwork and hip movement need improvement, but overall this season Harris has been quite impressive.
4. Jerrel Jernigan, WR/RB/PR, Troy
Total athlete. That's how I would describe Jerrel Jernigan. He is a home run threat. He catches the football, runs it, does returns; he can do it all. Oh yea, he's even thrown the ball occasionally. He is an incredibly impressive athlete that will definitely get some serious hype in the draft this year.
5. Jabaal Sheard, DE, Pitt
Sheard definitely stands out in film when you watch the Pittsburgh Panthers. His main problem that I have noticed is that he is very inconsistent. He seems dominant one play, but then gets taken out of the next play. I also would like to see him improve his motor. Another downside for Sheard is that there are some serious character concerns; he was arrested for assault this year. Despite these concerns, Sheard just really stands out to me at times when I watch Pittsburgh.
Some players I also considered
Derrell Johnson-Koulianos, WR, Iowa
He is a little underrated. Good WR with pretty good speed that also doubles as a punt returner. He is good at going across the middle and also is a solid blocker for a WR.
Greg Childs, WR, Arkansas
Childs was having a decent season for the Razorbacks before his unfortunate injury. He was injured 10/30 against Vanderbilt (torn patella tendon; requires surgery and could take 6 months to recover). However, before he was injured he caught my eye a couple times on film. I believe he is one of the toughest WR's in the country. He is big, quick for his size and was a consistent target for Ryan Mallett. It will be interesting to see how he does when he comes back from this injury.
