1. Detroit Lions – Matt Stafford, QB,
Georgia
Detroit
Lions' Draft
Needs
This deal is going to get done.
There’s no reason to run this into the ground any further. For the
record however, I think this pick is awful.
2. St. Louis
Rams – Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
St. Louis
Rams' Draft
Needs
They need to fill Pace’s shoes.
Smith is athletic enough to do it and also help out in the run, which
is going to have to be the strength of this team.
3. Kansas City
Chiefs – Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest
Kansas City Chiefs' Draft Needs
This pick is a no brainer if they
keep it. I do think there is a chance that they move out of this pick
to pick up extra picks if people really think that the Seahawks are
serious about pulling the trigger on Sanchez.
4. Seattle
Seahawks – Mark Sanchez, QB, Southern Cal
Seattle
Seahawks'
Draft Needs
They don’t pick in the top five very
often, so this pick, odd as it seems, is like a luxury. You have to get
a QB of the future when you can and not hope that you stumble on one in
late rounds. Easy pick.
5. Cleveland
Browns – Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
Cleveland Browns' Draft Needs
Crabtree stunk up the place in his
visit to Cleveland. Furthermore, this would allow the Browns to keep
Rogers at NT where he is best suited to play in a 3-4. If the Browns
trade Braylon, they will likely get the Giants first round pick and
take a WR there. From what I hear, they love Jackson.
6. Cincinnati
Bengals – Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia
Cincinnati Bengals'
Draft Needs
The best pure pass-blocker in this
year’s class. Keeps Palmer upright and helps him have time to get the
ball to Ochocinco who isn’t going anywhere.
7. Oakland
Raiders – Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri
Oakland
Raiders'
Draft Needs
He is the pick over Crabtree because
of his speed. He will also help out immediately in terms of creativity.
With he and McFadden and a mobile JaMarcus Russell, the offense could
be, if nothing else, interesting to watch.
8.
Jacksonville Jaguars – Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
Jacksonville Jaguars' Draft Needs
Signing Holt in my opinion does not
make a difference here. They still don’t have anyone to throw to and
Northcut is not a legitimate no.2 guy on almost any other NFL team.
Holt could help groom Crabtree into the Hall of Famer I believe he can
and will be.
9. Green Bay
Packers – BJ Raji, NT, Boston College
Green Bay Packers' Draft Needs
Although SI has recently come out
and said that they erred in their report about Raji, I still think he
will slide just a little bit. He is a good fit for a team going to a
3-4 next season.
10. San
Francisco 49ers – Brian Orakpo, DEOLB, Texas
San Francisco 49ers' Draft Needs
They are going to need a pass rush
to help out the corners and Patrick Willis. OL is also a need here, but
there should be good value at those spots in the second and third
rounds.
11. Buffalo Bills – Aaron Maybin, DE,
Penn State
Buffalo Bills' Draft Needs
They desperately need someone to get
after the QBs in that division and
Maybin can be that guy. Scares me a little bit due to his
one-hit-wonder career at PSU, but the Bills love to reach a little.
(McCargo, Wittner).
12. Denver
Broncos – Everette Brown, DE/OLB, Florida State
Denver Broncos' Draft Needs
The defense was terrible and moving
to a 3-4 means that Brown is a
perfect fit. A bit undersized, but understands how to sue his body
effectively to make up for it.
13. Washington
Redskins – Andre Smith, OT, Alabama
Washington
Redskins' Draft
Needs
Their OL is old and with Samuels in
place, they can let Smith play RT
where I believe he can dominate for a long time yet to come.
14. New
Orleans Saints – Malcolm Jenkins, DB, Ohio State
New Orleans
Saints' Draft
Needs
His versatility and good physicality
and size will allow him to move
around quite a bit and help them cover some of the big play receivers
in their division
15. Houston
Texans – Clay Matthews, LB, Southern Cal
Houston
Texans' Draft
Needs
There’s a family connection in
Houston and the Texans like that idea.
He is versatile enough to let Ryans stay where he is or move around a
little bit. Both can help in pass rushing and against the runs.
16. San Diego
Chargers – Rey Maualuga, LB, Southern Cal
San Diego
Chargers'
Draft Needs
The type of playmaking LB that could
help vault the defense where it
needs to be to allow this team to seriously contend for a Super Bowl
17. New York
Jets – Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland
New York Jets' Draft Needs
Gets vertical incredibly quickly and
will help the development of the
young QBs that they have in place there. Freeman is attractive, but I
think Ryan likes the way that his youngsters look.
18. Denver
Broncos – Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia
Denver Broncos' Draft Needs
I am hearing more and more that they
like Moreno. I know they just
brought in a stable of backs, but with Jackson gone and having
addressed the D with their 12th pick, this pick is sort of a luxury.
19. Tampa Bay
Buccaneers – Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State
Tampa Bay
Buccaneers'
Draft Needs
There is a connection with Raheem
Morris and Freeman from Freeman’s K-State freshman year. Leftwich is
not the long term answer.
20. Detroit
Lions – Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss
Detroit
Lions' Draft
Needs
They need to protect Stafford. They
should be hoping that either Oher
or Britton is there for them at 20 after using (wasting?) their first
pick overall on Stafford. Did I mention that I don’t think too much of
that decision.
21. Philadelphia Eagles – Chris
Wells, RB, Ohio State
Philadelphia
Eagles' Draft
Needs
With Moreno off the
board, the Eagles take Wells. Should be a good complement for
Brian Westbrook.
22. Minnesota Vikings – Max Unger,
OL, Oregon
Minnesota Vikings' Draft Needs
Depth and versatility
are the keys to a great offensive line in the
NFL. So is youth. There isn’t anyone more versatile at the OL spot left
on the board, and I believe they will pass on a WR in round one.
23. New England Patriots – Brian
Cushing, LB, Southern Cal
New England
Patriots'
Draft Needs
Such a talent at 23.
Just seems like a Belichick guy and can do a ton
of things on the field. Good at everything, not amazing at anything,
but is a sure tackler that can make plays.
24. Atlanta Falcons – Brandon
Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State
Atlanta
Falcons'
Draft Needs
I don’t see them
being able to snag Gonzo from KC so they get Matt Ryan
a safety valve to make sure that his development stays on track. What a
dangerous offense this is going to be in a year or two. Or right now.
25. Miami Dolphins – Robert Ayers,
DE/OLB, Tennessee
Miami Dolphins' Draft Needs
Great in the 3-4 as a
pass rusher, good with a hand on the ground
against the run. Only really had one standout season at Tennessee. That
and his 4.80 40 times worry me a bit. But is a hard worker and has a
great motor. Things Parcells likes quite a bit.
26. Baltimore Ravens – Vontae Davis,
CB, Illinois
Baltimore
Ravens' Draft
Needs
He slips a little bit
due to concerns about his attitude but is still a
top 10 talent with a mid 20’s head. Great potential. Is the perfect
corner for this team and that locker room will keep him in line. Great
value here.
27. Indianapolis Colts – Peria Jerry,
DT, Ole Miss
Indianapolis Colts' Draft Needs
They need to stop the
run because they haven’t in about five years.
Jerry will also provide a fantastic pass rush from the inside.
28. Buffalo Bills – Eben Britton, OT,
Arizona
Buffalo Bills' Draft
Needs
Britton will try to
replace the hole left by Jason Peters. He is super
athletic and may be a bit of a projection pick, but he fills a need and
should do so for a long time.
29. New York Giants – Kenny Britt,
WR, Rutgers
New York Giants' Draft Needs
I think that this
pick will wind up being the Browns’ pick. However,
one way or the other, Britt makes a lot of sense for either team. He is
a number one NFL receiver waiting to happen, although it may take him a
year or so to get there.
30. Tennessee Titans – Hakeem Nicks,
WR, North Carolina
Tennessee
Titans' Draft
Needs
The Titans could pick
Darius Butler to help the defense, but instead to
finally add a receiver. Hicks is the best on the board,
especially
with Harvin’s stock falling after the positive drug test.
31. Arizona Cardinals – Donald Brown,
RB, Connecticut
Arizona
Cardinals'
Draft Needs
Tim Hightower had a
ton of TDs but averaged less than 2.8 YPC. That is
not what a feature back is made of. Brown’s ability to catch the ball
and block reminds me of a young Edgerrin James. Ironically, that’s
exactly who he will replace.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers – Darius
Butler, CB, Connecticut
Pittsburgh
Steelers'
Draft Needs
They need to get
younger in the backfield. Offensive line is probably a
bigger need, but it was last year too and they took the value pick then
as well. Fits in well.
